Arthur Slenk

Remixed Wallpaper by Arthur Slenk for NLXL

AAArthur Slenk

Arthur Slenk (1941) found two boxes of handwritten music sheets over twenty years ago, used by an amateur orchestra between 1872 and 1941. The documents had not seen daylight in almost half a century. Carefully, he started examining page upon page, discovering the genesis, the varying pressure of pen upon paper, a corrected error, a tiny ink stain where the pen had stumbled over a fiber, fingerprints, signs of wear in the corner where the sheet was flipped over – all these traces suddenly shined a light upon the obscure members of this amateur orchestra. He then sorted the sheet music by subject into separate envelopes, and finally pasted. Each design was painstakingly subjected to critical examination, often followed by corrections. After seven years of work that produced 144 Letter-size designs, he considered this enormous task completed.

NLXL has selected 8 of these designs for a new wallpaper collection. The result is simply astonishing. New state-of-the art scanning techniques were developed to capture the depth of the paper clippings.

The vintage feel of the yellowed paper combined with the history behind the sheet music makes it look like a historical document on a wall.

New Collection from Rotaliana, 2013

New Collection from Rotaliana, Hanging Lamps 2013

  • Dina is a small hanging lamp that offers diffused light. It is a lamp made with polycarbonate.
  • This “ordinary” shape hides a LED source. The diffuser, either translucent or chromed, turns transparent when the light is switched on and reveals the absence of a traditional bulb, just like magic.
  • It’s light is warm and soft, making it perfect as a bedside, desktop or living-room lamp.
  •

                                                Rotaliana Capri Pendant Lamp
    • This family of ceiling lamps comes in three different sizes.
    • The bells are made of drawn steel and 3D laser cut decoration following a pattern that recalls a plant weave design, fish traps or the straw used to make sea hats.
    • These lamps join both modernity and Mediterranean imaginary.
    • The light is diffused through the holes in the pattern

                                               Rotaliana Sunflower Pendant Lamp
This family of LED-based ceiling lamps is a collection of three different models.
    • The body of the lamps is a “sunflower” heat sink (a cylinder with extruded aluminium flaps).
    • The extrusion has both aesthetic and cooling purposes and is shaped to obtain evocative metal flowers, paper lanterns and modernistic lamps.
    • The 20 Watts LED source has optics in a range of narrow, medium and wide beam angles thanks to the chance to assemble three different types of optics.

    In Between Chair, &Tradition

The interpay between positive and negative space is central to in Between, Samy Kallio's new chair for &Tradition.

Its back and side panels provide a concrete shape and support, but forms are created equally by the gaps in between then.

“What’s exciting about In Between is the successful clash between the industrial process and the traditional techniques that reference hand-crafted wooden furniture,” says Martin Kornbek Hansen, brand director of &tradition. In Between’s combination of modern industry and traditional craft is in perfect accordance with &tradition’s championing of tradition tied to innovation” explains Sami.
