Magis Tom and Jerry Stool by Konstantin Grcic

TOM & JERRY is the redesign of a classic furniture typology: the workshop stool. The three-legged stool (in two different heights) is made of solid beech wood with mechanical parts in coloured polypropylene

And it is indeed the contrast between solid beech and plastic which gives versatility to the product, suggesting its use in the most different situations and locations, both for contract and domestic use.
Due to its smooth-running mechanism it is easy to adjust and convenient to climb. The stools make a versatile addition to working, recreational and private environments alike: an office canteen, a restaurant or the kitchen counter at home. It's the working stool of an architect or a scientist, the resting place of a museum guard, telephone stool, seating for children at kindergarden.

Tom&Jerry, designed by Konstantin Grcic for Italian company Magis, are now in production and will be available from January, 2012

Issey Miyake, O-Transparent Time-Shape of Water

Issey Miyake - O watch Silaw 002. It is the 10th anniversary of the Issey Miyake Watch Project and to celebrate this occasion Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka in collaboration with Seiko instruments has created the “O” watch. The name is a play on the French word for water “eau” which is pronounced the same as the letter “o”.

You can clearly see that the timepiece has taken water as the theme for its inspiration, looking as though it has been sculpted out of ice with the watch frozen inside its crystalline band, and its flowing lines and reflective casing remind you of the shape and feel of water.

Picto – a picture of watch fashion 2011

The decorative watch has dominated women's timekeeping for many seasons, whilst the men's ”statement watches” have been battling it out to be big, bigger, biggest! Now Timepieces Rosendahl Copenhagen is relaunching the Danish design icon, Picto, and by doing so is taking men's and women's watch fashion in a completely new direction. Minimalist and brimming with the best from the 80s.

Even though the 1980s are known for spectacularly garish colours and the sculptured silhouettes that are now back in fashion, the decade also contained a more minimalist design wave. The aim was to update conventional design, focusing on form and function, and in 1984 two Danish designers had a stroke of genius when they created the Picto watch. A minimalist, almost aesthetic watch design in a graphic style and ”rotating disc” which is more contemporary today than ever before.

Fashion & MoMA

With Picto, Steen Georg Christensen and Erling Andersen wanted to design a ”picture” of time. Where traditional watches show the time with the ticking hands, it is the watch face that rotates on Picto, giving the illusion of the earth moving and time passing. Conversely, the hour hand is fixed like a dot on the face, as Picto's only feature besides  the minute hand – both in shiny, stylish steel.

Picto's innovative design and technology have taken the watch all over the world and directly into MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where the watch is today a part of the museum's permanent exhibition. So it is a modern design icon that Rosendahl is now relaunching in its almost original form. However, the watch casing has been changed to enable the soft, supple silicone strap to glide straight through it, making Picto the epitome of the no-nonsense design that dominates today's fashion.

Alessi - New - Croce, cross By Mario Trimarchi

Alessi - Croce, cross By Mario Trimarchi. Cross in 18/10 stainless steel mat. PVD coated inside. This Cross - very, very simple, although bicoloured - should not be understood as an invitation to religious commitment, but rather is much more modestly intended as a symbol of peace. Designed by Mario Trimarchi, Croce (Cross) is an attempt to impart a contemporary look to an object that seems to have almost vanished from our homes. Croce is an iconic symbol and immediately recognisable, proposed here in a state of dynamic tension thanks to being inclined with respect to the wall and to the presence of its black shadow.

Tonfisk

They were drawn together by their common interests in exploring and developing new ideas. Bored of seeing just more variations of the same, the established Tonfisk Design in 1999, to market and produce objects which are not mere variations.

Tonfisk belives that there is in all people an appreciation of creativity and inspiration: in other words, ideas Tonfisk's motto is: "Form follows function doesn't..." built on Louis Sullivan's functionalist dictum states the very obvious, but in spite of its cliché-status it describes the fundament of their design philosophy. Tonfisk products are created with a vision of not producing yet another shape but a whole new idea.

Tonfisk's products are now part of several touring exhibitions on Scandinavian Design including the "Scandinavian Design Beyond the Myth' which has toured throughout Europe and also Tonfisk's prducts have been featured in several recently published books on Scandinavian design including New Scandinavian Design and Scandinavian.

Bald & Bank

Its name sounds gimmicky, but this outlet showcases what are perhaps the most sophisticated lamps in Europe. Launched by entrepreneurs Anders Bang and Gitte Bald, it began by selling only one item, the IQlight, a lampshade from the heyday of disco in the '70s. Designed by Holger Strøm in 1972, the lamp had long become passé until Bald and Bang brought it back in 2000. The lampshade is made from linking pieces of off-white plastic that can be combined in different sizes and shapes. Some of their latest lamp designs include the futuristic "Fuse." They also go back in Denmark's design past to rediscover golden oldies, including Louis Weisdorf's 1965 "Turbo," made from a dozen pieces.
